The already heavily cut PG version of Ace Ventura 2 was cut FURTHER for a 7PM slot on 5*!

The Wild Geese is on C5 next weekend at 7 pm - or at least some of it will be!

Between the adverts and the cuts there's little reason to watch any film on C5.

TCM showed a censored version of Duel at Diablo even though it was on post watershed. I only watched a little of it (as have it on DVD) but the R2 fight in the stables - a BBFC cinema cut back in 1966 - was definitely cut to remove a headbutt from James Garner and I would guess other stuff was cut too. Pity, as it was a great HD print.

Caught part of Carry On Again Doctor on ITV 4 last night and the scene in which Barbara Windsor is examined on a couch by Jim Dale was heavily censored to remove virtually all sight of her naked apart from her breasts covered by red stars. Between 1-2m must have been cut compared to the PG rated DVD which I checked out today. This was an 11pm screening so cuts were ridiculous, can only assume this was their 'lunchtime' print for old grannies.

Weird I know when the BBC screened Carry On films late night they were always uncuts as per the video versions.

Film 4 censored the PG rated 1961 John Ford western Two Rode Together a few weeks ago. It was an afternoon slot so I am not sure if they also censor later screenings. One snip was one of the most blatant cuts I have ever seen in which the screen suddenly 'froze' and then faded to black before the commencing at the next scene. It was so obvious I immediately pulled up You Tube which, luckily, had a 'speeded up' print of the uncut version that I could check for comparison. It was a scene in which a young Indian is lynched and Film Four cut (a) a shot of the noose being put round his neck and the boy being hit in the face and (b) the sight of his legs swinging in the air after he had been hanged - this second cut was the one that caused the 'freezing' edit since it was the end of a whip pan shot that started with the camera focussed on the cart moving forward and then the camera whipped to the right to show the legs dangling in mid-air (the screen was 'frozen' just before the pan) .

This is about the 5th 1960s western that I've seen censored on various cable channels now even when the film is 'PG' rated uncut on DVD. DVD seems to only way on many of these films.

Interesting to read about the treatment of the film Tim.

They often leave the stronger more adult westerns alone with the post watershed screenings. Animal cruelty often still gets cut no matter what time a film airs. Channel Five likes to screen some of stronger westerns earlier in the day and cut them to ribbons.

Channel 4 showed the French film Stranger by the Lake at around 1.25am last night - a drama set entirely at a gay cruising spot. The BBFC noted real sex, including masturbation, fellatio and ejaculation, so was curious to see if they were brave enough to screen it uncut. Very strong warnings about language, violence and sex beforehand and at each ad break. Whizzed through a downloaded copy to see what they might find contentious, and sure enough, two scenes had been removed - a close-up of masturbation at the point of ejaculation and a brief glimpse of real oral sex. What was left was still fairly strong stuff by free telly standards - not sure I've seen male genitals take up quite so much screen time in a non-porn film as this!

According to the BBFC site they passed the film UNCUT in 2013. I guess C4 were not taking any chances by showing the film intact.
