Will it bring back some suspense and actual terror of the zombie apocalypse or just descend into emotionless kills and gore which is killing this genre. There's just no edge of your seat suspense anymore in this series, hopefully spin off-this August- will kick start it again? 8-)

The genre really took off again after the Dawn Of The Dead re-make & 28 Days Later. But there's dozens of Zombie films now from big studios to low budget productions. The latest one is, Scout's Guide To A Zombie Apocalypse.

To be honest I stop following the series after Season 2. This wasn't due to the content but me just losing interest and getting into Sons Of Anarchy. What spin off have they got planned Jim?. The original series had some great suspense and I felt it beat any zombie flicks out around the same time.

Cobblers wrote:It's a curious world, broadcasting standards in the US - The Shield was made for basic cable, which isn't quite as free and easy as something like HBO. Plenty of violence and sexual situations but no actual outright nudity or stronger swearing. Just watched the TV series of Fargo, made for FX, another basic cable channel, and it's the same, plenty of bloody shootings and stabbings but barely a single curse!

I'm not sure how they treat films these days? but I do know in the past T.V in the U.S was very strict. Odd how they view gun violence different to bad language & sexual content.

There were several F words in the most recent season of Homeland. Not sure who makes this: thoyght it was HBO.

Homeland is made for Showtime, a premium cable channel - so fine with most content.

I thought series 2 of The Walking Dead was overly dragged out and I gave up on it. It was just spinning its wheels until series 3 for the most part. Give me a compact movie any day; though I still agree it's better than most modern horror films, which are largely gubbins.

Fear the Walking Dead will be shown early August mate. Looks pretty good from trailers. I've about had it watching The Walking Dead as I'm fed up of the characters and there's no more suspense in the series anymore. It was interesting to see Series 4 of TWD on blu ray when Rick utters the F bomb compared to TV "They're screwing with the wrong people!" All that horrific gore and still swearing is unacceptable apart from the odd sh*t or basta*d etc!

Hi Jim.

I think T.V studios find it hard to resist prolonging a T.V series if its really popular. Even if this doesn't benefit the story or the viewers sometimes. Some productions would work much better if they didn't run so long. This isn't the case with every T.V series though.

Usually Luke, a network series is scheduled for 5 seasons like Breaking Bad, Fringe etc, but occasionally surpasses that mark due to immense popularity as in The X-Files or Supernatural which was taken up by another network after being cancelled. Is it 9 or 10 with that one? Anyway, my current fave is The Strain which will bow out after 5 seasons according to its creators. True to form 5 is the magic series number! :D

I didn't know that Jim, my knowledge of T.V production is very limited. Looking forward to the up coming Texas Uprising starring Ray Liotta. Also yet to see Season 3 of the Vikings which has been on pre-order on Amazon for months now. I lost track of the X-Files when Robert Patrick joined the cast and haven't watched any of the latest episodes.

Robert Patrick was very good as Agent Dogget in those last couple of series he did in The X Files. I particular remember an excellent episode when he investigates a strange bat like creature. The special fx were really good. I don't know why the American fan base got so worked up about Mulder's absence and Doggett's appearance, because by then the show was very jaded and needed new life!

Also I was recently surprised to see the actress playing Scully has done a Jodie Foster 'and come out', as if we are interested  , and we all knew Duchovny used to make soft? pornos in his early years! Hollywood eh!

The whole X-Files image has been tarnished forever now Jim lol. She used to be a very popular pin up back in the 90's. I can recall seeing her face every where on posters and magazines when I first started going to film conventions. She's appeared in a lot of British produced dramas of late.

You are right regarding the X-Files series getting a bit stale.

That 2nd X Files movie was rather poor; had it not been for a Mitch Pileggi cameo (what a waste!) Billy Connelly would've stolen the show for Chrissakes!

Have to agree too, 2nd film was close to abysmal even in its unrated edition. Connelly and Pileggi saved it.
